diacritical marks: part II

Hi,

I cannot help but ask. I am an iBook G4 owner and having a problem
similar to that addressed in the diacritical marks discussion some
three months earlier. I routinely have to phoneticize Japanese and
Sanskrit terms in roman alphabets, and in the course of doing so must
resort to diacritical marks to express certain sounds. Many people,
including those here, have suggested simply opening the character
palette and using the 'insert' function to take whatever I need from
it. The trouble is, my character palette doesn't seem to allow me to do
this, since the 'insert' button refuses to be clicked; furthermore,
when I try cutting and pasting it into my MS Word document, the
character is not recognized and appears as a jumble of nonsense. Oddly,
inserting it into a Safari window is problem-free. It's just Ms Word
that appears to resist the insertion. I wonder if there is a
fundamental problem that must be addressed before this task can be
performed. Any help regarding this matter will be greatly appreciated.
I am a fuzzy, and having tried tackling this for the last week, I am at
a loss to continue. Thanks again.

Ken

John,

Indeed, I have Word X. Until I get the newer version, I will simply
resign myself to being screwed. I do appreciate your kind help though.

See if this helps. I wrote it around Word X. It's awfully clunky, but if
you are the kind of person who WILL NOT be defeated, you'll get your result
:)
