Dial up networking opens when launching Word

Hi, when launching Word 2000, our dial up networking
connection pops up and won't go away. We just recently
installed Office SP3. We use Windows 98 SE and IE6 SP1
with all the current patches. We've tried changing the
IE connection settings and when we use Never dial a
connection, it stops. Any help would be great.
