Dialog box appears with Chinese Characters when making changes to

Hi,
Intermittently when one of our students try to make changes to Word Document
in Word 2003 a Box appears with nothing but chinese characters and a few
swastikas. if you click the button it goes away until you try to write to the
document, it then appears again.............so on and so forth.
I have had the message translated but it is just a bunch of chinese
characters that don't make sense collectively.
To me it looks like some macro virus, but I haven't been able to find
anything related to the message that appears.

has anyone else come across something similar?
