Dialog error

I have a user, Office XP SP2. User opens Word, at top, instead of saying
Document 1 it says Document 3. This started when the user did this...
Clicked on Open Folder, Selected first document from drive, held down the
CTRL key and selected another document, right clicked and selected OPEN. User
received error - The command you selected is not available from this shortcut
menu. It hung Word up. User went to Task Manager and did an End Task on Word.
User received error - You cannot close Microsoft Word because a dialog is
active. Switch to Microsoft Word first and close the dialog.
Can anyone shed some light on what is going on? I have searched Knowledge
base and can't find much.

With Word closed, try deleting all of Word's leftover temporary
files as described in
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm .

That didn't work. I even searched the registry.
Any other suggestions?
