Dictionary and Spelling in Word

I no longer seem to be able to spellcheck word docs. When I go to
Tools > Spelling it comes back with "The spelling check is complete"
but no spellcheck is performed. I also no longer get the underlined
words when things are spelled incorrectly.
From what I can see the "English Dictionary" exists in the "Office"
folder within "Microsoft Office 2004" folder.

Any ideas on what could be happening and how I can resolve the issue.

This might be helpful:

Thanks once again, I've checked this and all seems to be well. I'm
testing on the word "confirmation" which I'm typing "confrimation" -
it doesn't autocorrect as I'm going along but looking at the "Control
Autocorrect Options" it probably wouldn't because only common
misspellings are listed.

But, going to Tools > Spelling should still perform a full spellcheck
and find that error.

By "all seems to be well", I assume you mean that the style is not set
to "no proofing" and your dictionary is set correctly.

Is it possible you have inadvertently set your custom dictionary to
recognize "confrimation" as a valid spelling?

There are many many options on that page. Can you please specify what
have you checked?

This sounds like a classic "the language is not set properly" problem.
However, it's also possible that Word | Preferences | Spelling and
Grammar has "hide spelling errors in this document" checked. I'm not
sure that fix is on the webpage.

Check display font. CE fonts (Monaco CE, Geneva CE, Helvetica CE, Courier
CE) can cause the problem. Change to a different font.

Thanks for everyone's help. I've simply re-installed the "proofing
tools" from the Office 2004 installation CD and all seems to be
working well now... very strange!
