Dictionary does not have previously saved words after automatic up

I had many medical words and drug names saved in my custom.dic file that
after the latest automatic updates are not there. Some of these words
(probably 1000's) would not be easy to find again as they are discontinued
drugs or specific medical terminology used by my Specialist. I do have a
reasonably recent backup (January) of this file - will this change something
in the dictionary that needed updating. I am now wary about automatic
updates in case it changes something that is needed!!!

Have you searched your machine for *.dic files and checked whether any of them
are the "lost" file?
