Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: intel

When I launch Word, I get three dialogs which state the following:
-The custom dictionary "English Grammar Dictionary" is not available.
-The custom dictionary "Microsoft Office ACL (English)" is not available.
-The custom dictionary "US English Spelling Dictionary" is not available.

I did not delete anything and can not seem to fix this problem which suddenly happens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Michelle.

-The custom dictionary "Microsoft Office ACL (English)" is not available.
-The custom dictionary "US English Spelling Dictionary" is not available.

Try the following:
FInd the dictionaries in the Finder and drag them to the Word icon in
the Dock
Make some small modification adn save them.

Does it fix the problem??

None of those files should actually be custom dictionaries, as they are
application proofing tools. Go to Word | Preferences | Spelling and
Grammar, click on Dictionaries, and if you see those files listed as
custom dictionaries, remove them in the dialog from being dictionaries.

True, I didn't even pay attention to the name of the files :-\

Thank you for your feedback, however, I tried the two suggestions and am still getting the messages when I launch Word. I think a re-install is the best solution now.

Thanks again!

But it's not.
See the standard troubleshooting measures, which you will find listed here:
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/TroubleshootingIndex.html

Work through them one by one until something helps. If nothing does,
post back. The most common culprit is a corrupted Normal template or
damaged Preferences file. If you do reinstall, it is unlikely to help
unless you Remove Office first.

Actually, I'd repair permissions first.

Were those files listed in your Dictionaries dialog?

Thanks so much. I did repair permissions but still had the problem. I went into Word/Preferences/ Spelling & Grammar/Dictionaries.... and deleted all dictionaries listed there (about three or four) so none were left. I then quit and restarted Word and now my dictionaries and spell check work fine.

Thanks all!
