Hi Neil,
Is your problem related to the spell checker or to the research
function?
I use Word 2003 (Office 2003) but I think the settings might be fairly
similar. Being Canadian, I also like to have my dictionary spell check
words like "humor" as "humour" and so forth.
What I did is set my dictionary in Word to be English (Canada) by
ensuring the following:
In Word, go to Tools, Language, Set Language, Mark Selected Text as
English (Canada)...or in your case, English (U.K).
I can add all sorts of words to my custom dictionary, without the
overall dictionary default changing back to U.S.
On the Windows taskbar, I also clicked the Start button, pointed to
Programs, pointed to Microsoft Office Tools, and then clicked Microsoft
Office Language Settings. Then I set my default language as English
(Canadian) there as well.
I'm sorry I'm not exactly sure about the Dictionary function in Word
2000 or what it does, but I'm sure other Word 2000 users here would
love to help you.
Best of luck to you with this.
Karen
