dictionary, spelling, and grammer

Can I turn off the dictionary, spelling, etc for a single document ? I make
documents with numerous technical field names, etc. Word underlines these
words, and I have to right click each one, and tell Word to Ignore, which is
a huge annoyance to me. I don't want Word to "help" me for a single
document, not the Word application, just per document.

Thanks

I don't think you can switch off spelling per document. However, you
could add the technical words to your custom dictionary. You can do
this one of two ways. Either click the add to dictionary button when
you spell check a document and it finds one of your technical words, OR
with a document open, click on Tools, Options, Spelling and Grammer.
Click on the Custom Dictionary button - if a custom dictionary does not
exist, add one, then Modify it and add all your technical words.

Hi Mike,

In addition to Carol's suggestion to add these special technical words
to your custom dictionary, if you are using Word 2003 you can select to
hide spelling and grammatical errors for the current document only.

Tools>Options>Spelling and Grammar: Click on both "Hide spelling
errors in this document" and "Hide grammatical errors in this document"
(either one or both, depending on which you prefer).

It won't carry over to future documents, but the downside is that it
won't catch any other typos or grammatical errors in your current
document either. That's why I like Carol's suggestion, but ultimately
the choice is up to you.

Good luck with this!

Oops! I meant "Lynn's" suggestion!!!!

I've obviously had far too much sun today. Sorry about that, Lynn!

Thanks Karen,
this is what I was looking for. I looked right by it when I was searching
the Options dialog.
