Did the April 25 Windows Updates fix the "save as" bug?

Anybody try this?

I have a home user indicating this problem and want to know if I
should instruct him to uninstall that 4/11 security update and
reinstall the "new" 4/25 version of it.

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165 "Problems in Windows
Explorer or the Windows shell after you install security update
MS06-015".

If you aren't comfortable with editing the Windows registry
yourself, then go to
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll
down to Item No. 383 "Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software -
Fix". Download and run the script to automatically modify your
registry as described in KB918165. You may need to temporarily
disable your antivirus program in order to run the script.

A revised version of the MS06-015 update was released on April 25
that supposedly interacts better with the older HP and nVidia
software. You can download the revised update from
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx .

Yes, but...

Does the "revised version" work?

Any reports out there?

So far, I've only seen two comments regarding the revised update.
One said it worked great. The other said it was no better than
the original.

It didn't work for me. I had half expected it not to, since the Registry
tweak hadn't helped, but I was hoping maybe the Registry tweak hadn't helped
because the conflict was with nVidia drivers as well as the HP Share-to-Web
software.

I downloaded the "new and improved" update yesterday, and when I got around
to restarting the computer, I was back to Square One. I had hoped I might be
able to find a way to uninstall the Share-to-Web software, but I couldn't
see anything obvious--it looked like I would have had to uninstall the HP
scanning software entirely. So I looked for the offending process mentioned
in KB918165 (hpgs2wnd.exe) and tried to delete it, but Windows said it was
in use, so I pulled up Task Manager and stopped it, then deleted it.

The next time I tried to use File | Open in Word, I got a prompt (twice) to
run the HP installer to repair the HP scanning software install. I declined
twice and had no further problems. Since restarting this morning I have had
no problems and not been asked to install anything, so I'm hoping I'm out of
the woods, but it took more work than just downloading the "corrected"
update.

Hi Steve,

FWIW, the updated version does not change the actual patch, it only adds some additional registry entries, which seem to take better
on Windows XP (where the majority of the problems were reported) than it does to folks on Win 2000 who have both the HP scanning
software (certain versions) and certain Nvidia monitor s/w.
