Diff betweeb project central and project database file format

Is there a difference bewteen using Project Central and
using the Project Database format (.mpd)?

Yes. Project Central provides some web based functionality for Project 2000.
This was superseded by Project Server in Project 2002.

..mpd files are simply an Access format database to save Project data
(Project 98 onwards I think).
