differance between imo and workgroup mode

hello sir,
what are the major differance between internet mode and workgroup mode?
why we r switching between those modes?
is it possible to send a mail to other server from workgroup mode just
like in internet mode.

IMO = IMAP + POP + WinFax SE only, choose sending account
CW = any MAPI transport, mail always sent through default account
