Difference between "enterprise" project and "workgroup" project

Some of our published projects are labeled as "enterprise" type projects and
others are labeled as "workgroup" type projects when I view the list of
projects in the "Clean up Project Server database" section of Admin.

What is the difference between an "enterprise project" and a "workgroup
project" and how were the two different types produced?

Thanks to anyone who can explain this!!

The fact that you see Workgroup projects listed indicates that you have set
up Project Server incorrectly. A Workgroup project is any project that is
not stored in the Project Server database and is usually saved as an .mpp
file, and is also known as a non-enterprise project. An Enterprise project
is any project stored in the Project Server database. When you allowed the
publishing of non-enterprise projects, you created a situation when people
could accidentally or purposefully publish .mpp files to Project Server. In
your situation, I would recommend you do the following:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Server configuration
3. Select the "Allow only enterprise projects to be published to this
server" option
4. Click the Save Changes button
5. Click Admin - Clean up Project Server Database
6. Select each Workgroup project and delete it

After completing the above steps, you will need to require each of your
project managers to import their non-enterprise projects (.mpp files) into
the Project Server database using Tools - Enterprise Options - Import
Project to Enterprise. Refer to the following FAQ for the steps to perform
this operation:

Hope this helps.
