Difference between MSProject 2003 and 2007 handling vacation time

Hello,
I am working in MS Project 2007 and saving a copy in MS Project 2003 format
for another person to review.
Where a resource has a vacation set in their resource calendar, 2003 shows
more progress than 2007 on the Gantt chart.
Even if I look at the 2003 format file in 2007, I see the same progress as
the 2007 format. But if I look at the 2003 file in 2003, I see different
progress from the original.

Any ideas?

What happens when opened in 2003 when "calculation mode" is set for
Manual (in Menu: Tools/Options, Tab: Calculation).

The other thought is to ensure that both 2003 and 2007 at latest service
packs. Early verions of both had bugs.

Rob,

Thanks very much for your response. I've tried switching to manual on 2003
and also upgraded 2007 to SP2.

Sadly, no improvement.

From my calculations, it looks like 2003 is correct and 2007 is ignoring the
resource non-working days. Ever come across anything like that?

Hi,

IMHO the weakness here is the word "shows"
What the bars in the Gantt Chat show has never been accurate i'm afraid.
It uses a variable "Complete Through" that you cannot show in a column; its
clculation rule wa never documented AFAIK
You bettr insert columns such as Stop (last work performed) or Resume (first
remaining work schedules). They are accurate.

Hope this helps,

Some more information:

I've noticed that if, in 2003, I change the progress bar (Format>Bar Styles)
to display to "% Complete" instead of "CompleteThrough", it shows the same
progress as 2007.
2007 is set to show "CompleteThrough". Changing it to "% Complete" does not
help the situation.

Thanks Jan,

I changed it to "Resume" and that seems to do the trick.

"Stop" worked for the task for which I had a problem initially but also
effected all other tasks.

Interestingly, after changing the 2003 progress "to" value to "% Complete",
changing it back to "CompleteThrough" did not reset the progress so it ended
up looking like the original 2007 version.

Thanks Again,
Steve
