difference between .one and .onepkg

This is probably a really silly question, but what is the difference between
a '.one' and a '.onepkg' file? which is best for splitting a notebook up by
sections and saving them as if they were the original?

..ONE is the native format for a Section. A Notebook will contain one or
more Sections, and therefore the folder containing the Notebook will
cnmtain the same number of *.ONE files.

A .ONEPKG file is a single file which contains multiple pieces of data
(maybe some embedded files or sound files) which are associated with a
section. You would create a ONEPKG file if you needed to distribute a lot
of OneNote data. Daniel's blog explains this better:

file-packages_2C00_-archiving-_2600_-notebook-templates.aspx

Can you clarify your question about "splitting a
notebook up by sections and saving them as if they were the original"?
