difference between outline numebr, WBS and outlinecode

Hi, What is the exact difference between the outline number and the WBS
field, apart from the fact that it is possible to customize the WBS field.
Why does MSP need two fields for the WBS?

What is the best resource for information about task- and resource fields?
Help-file?

One can be customized the other can't.
One is automatically updated, the other one isn't.

Any book can help you on information about the fields.
If you are Belgian or Dutch and looking for training I can help.
