difference in licenses?

What's the difference in licensing mean? I need to get Onenote 2007, the OEM
version is the cheapest, says "media only, not a license" but then you loook
at the license type & it says OEM. Some also say MLK version. What does this
mean as opposed to getting the complete versions which cost a lot more. Do
you need the license to be able to do or access certain things?

As it says "media (i.e. CD) only". There's no license included to run the
software. Without the license, it's useless to you.

MLK (Medialess License Kit) are for resellers.
"Medialess License Kits contain suite specific product keys which enable end
customers to "unlock" either Microsoft Office Basic 2007, Small Business
2007, or Professional 2007."

Sounds like you need to purchase a full retail version either via download
or going to a bricks-and-mortar shop.

The "Media Only" kit is just that - only a CD containing the software.
It doesn't have a license and you will need the license to have an
activation key to activate the product.

If you were to buy volume license (5+ copies) you would get a piece of
paper with just the licenses on it. Then you would buy the "Media Only"
kit and use your volume licenses to activate it.

The cheapest (legal) way to get OneNote 2007 is either by itself (I
think it's $99 but you may find some discounts) or as part of the "Home
and Student Edition" suite.

As I understand it;

OEM, "Original Equipment Manufacturer". Sold to pc manufacturers and
builders, also available to the public through certain outlets. It DOES have
a license/key and WILL work, but only on ONE machine. For instance, if you
buy a Dell computer, the copy of Windows that comes with that pc cannot be
installed on another machine, even if the original machine dies. By the same
token, if you buy an OEM copy of Vista say, and install it on your current
machine, if you buy a new machine next week you will have to buy a new copy
of Vista. OEM licensed software from Microsoft is licensed to run on the
machine it is first installed on, only.
