differences in web-page addresses

E

Erin

Here is a hypothetical situation, put in simple terms to understand my question

Let's say that I have a home page called: www.mypage.co

I add a page about my dog. I make that page's address: www.mypage.com/do

I've seen that perhaps another way for me to list the page about my dog is to give it the address: www.dog.mypage.com- where the distinguishing page is listed first, rather than last

Can anyone explain to me

1- What is the difference between listing the special page last vs. first

2- How you would name the new page in the new format and what is the correct format- i.e.- would it really by www.dog.mypage.com

Thanks so much for your help

Erin

http://www.mypage.com will load the default document (home page) as defined by the server, this
would normally be one of the following, index.htm, index.html, default.htm.

http://www.mypage.com/dog is URL to a folder called dog, for this URL to actual display a page, a
default document (see above) would need to also be in this folder.

http://www.mypage.com/dog.htm would load the page dog.htm

http://dog.mypage.com requires your host to allow you to use subdomains which they would have to
setup in most cases.
