different chapter titles and specific page numbering

I've got a big document that has several different chapters (or
sections). I need to be able to have differnet headers for all the
chapters (for example, chapter 1's header is "In the beginning",
chapter 2 is "God created man", etc...). The way I have it right now,
it maintains the same chapter header throughout, and if I change it in
one chapter or section, it applies the chang throughout as well. How
can I accomplish this?

Also, the document has specific page numbering... is there a way I can
specify the individual page numbers in the order I specify, but still
have it appear in the footer as a page number?

Would sectioning solve your problems?

I think it would, and I have the document set up in different
sections, but I still have the problems that I mentioned below... I'm
doing something wrong, but I don't know what.

Have you disconnected the headers and footers of each section from the
section preceding?

You need to switch off the "Same As Previous" setting in the Headers and
Footers toolbar...
