different information in footers

Hi.
I'll start by stating that I may have posted this question before, but I'm
not sure so here I go again :)

A lot of manuals contain information at the bottom of the page; pagenumbers,
effective date, revision numbers, customer numbers and so on. A lot of this
information need to change from page to page, of course I understand the
page number changes, but how can I configure word so it will be easy for me
to write "revision 10" in say footer page 10, and then "revision 11" in
footer page 11? I do not want to use section breaks. What I done so far is
to create a style that I call revision number, with white font color so it
won't show on print, I then type "revision 11" somewhere on the page and use
the style on it, the style contains a frame that moves the text to the top
of the page. I thought this was clever, but now I can see that even though
the frame is at the top of the page with "revision 11" text in it, then the
"revision 11" still remains hidden at the insertion point on the page. This
means that if I were to insert a lot of text before the insertion point,
then the "revision 11" text may move to then next page and now the revision
number will change on that page to 11 when updating the fields. How can I
configure the style so the text will stay on the page no matter what I do,
or is there a completely new approach to this problem???

Kind regards

I assume you're using a StyleRef field in the header/footer to pick up your
invisible style. This does seem rather clever, but I'm a bit confused about
the purpose of it. I would have thought that the revision number would apply
to specific text on the page, and you would therefore want the number to
stay with that text. To do what you're trying to do is not going to be easy,
I think, but I would start by clearing the "Move with text" check box in the
Format Frame dialog, though I'm not sure that will help since the frame will
still be anchored to the same paragraph.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I use StyleRef field, just as you suspected.
Thanks for your quick answer, I have a new idea that I think might solve the
problem. The insertion point shall of course be where the change is, it will
then be correct also if the change moves to a new page. I think this could
work :)
