Different Page breaks and Pasting Graphics

I see that pasting has been treated (sort of). I have trashed the Carbon
Registration Database and some other Pref files -- didn't work. We used to
be able (Word 98 -- also works in Word X) to take a Photoshop graphic, copy
it, and then Paste (Paste Special) into Word. In Word 2004 the image is
blank -- unless the dpi is reduced to 72 -- then the image is there, but
that resolution is not good enough. Any ideas? Why did it work before, why
does it work at such a low resolution, and what can I do to get it to work
in 2004. Seems strange that it would be okay in earlier versions but not in
the latest (best) model.

Maybe related: Documents created in Word 98 have the same page breaks in
Word X but not in Word 2004 -- why is that? What to do? I have messed
with Preferences: Print: fractional widths and Compatibility: Use Printer
Metrics -- but they do nothing in Word 2004 -- In Word X I can see the page
breaks change when I change those settings, but in Word 2004 nothing changes
and the page breaks are incorrect.

Help please
