different preview

Processor: intel

How come documents have a different preview even though they are saved with the format? When I see them on my desktop or folder, before opening them, they look different. the only difference between the two is that one has ".docx" in the name & extensions under properties and the other just have the name of the file. why does this happen?
Thank you

I am taking a wild guess here...

The .docx files will attract the more modern icon. In Word 2008, saving a
"Preview" is not automatic, you have to ask for it if you want one.

Some of your files have been saved without an extension, meaning the system
is allocating the icon based on the embedded type-code, which is associated
with the .doc file type and has a different icon.

Cheers

Previews (in a Finder window, for example?) are nothing more than low
resolution graphic representations of what the file contains. About the only
purpose they serve (AFAIK) is to help confirm that you are about to open,
copy, delete, etc. the correct file. Other than that they just cause the
file size to be larger.

ok but...
no...
like.. both files are .docx it is simply that the ones without the ".docx" part in the name & extension under the properties have the newest preview. the others, with the ".docx" in the 'name & extension' have the older preview. Like, i want to know why some files have that '.docx' part in the name and extension and others do not. and why they make different preview. They are both the same type of file... they are saved under the same format.
Like I know what previews are, it is simply that i would like to know why they both produce different previews when they are the same format.
Thank you.

As I said: Different file associations in your system between the Type Code
and the Extension. I don't think it will matter.
