Different types of return options

HI,
Can you please help me? I am trying to learn how
to format Word documents. (Different types of return
options) I have looked through a dozen technical books and
even on-line. However what I am looking for could not be
found (I am probably not using the correct wording or
terminology)

Example a:
How do you change a soft return (shift+enter) type of
return.
into a hard return (enter)

Example b:
How do you change a 'row' or multiple returns

Into a single (deleting excess returns) by using
the 'Find' (Ctrl+F), or 'Replace (Ctrl+H)

You can contact me on ph: 04 29349634 (Australian mobile)
or (e-mail address removed).

Hi Ngaire

In the find and replace box, you can search for, or replace, ^p (representing a paragraph mark) and ^l (a lower case L, representing
the new line mark inserted with Shift-Enter).

So to change a new line into a paragraph mark, search for ^l and replace with ^p.

To search for several paragraph marks in a row, and replace with one, search for ^p^p and replace with ^p, and repeat as many times
as necessary.

The article at http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/CleanWebText.htm has further information.

Hope this helps.
