Different Version Numbers for Excel, Word,PPT - Updates not working?

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Power PC

Today, I decided to make sure everything was up to date. I usually let AutoUpdater do its thing so I was surprised to find that Word was currently version 11.3.8. I downloaded the 11.3.9 update but when I tried to install it, the only versions it found for updating were on my Time Machine Backup drive. After restoring Office a couple of times, I've discovered that I have in fact run all the updates properly (as shown in the Updater Log), but that Excel is currently version 11.4.1, Word is 11.3.8 and PPT is 11.3.5. What's with that? Why would they not all be 11.4.1 since it appears to affect all of them? Should I be concerned?

Thanks for any advice!

No, that's entirely normal. Not every Office application gets updated with
every update, so some applications may lag behind. If you are fully updated,
you should see the following:

Entourage 2004: 11.4.0
Excel 2004: 11.4.1
PowerPoint 2004: 11.3.5
Word 2004: 11.3.8

Wow! Thanks for the quick and informative reply. I guess I just hadn't ever
noticed before.

There is a script that gives you all of this info:

Note there are different scripts for Office X, 2004 and 2008.

In case the above link does not work:

Here is an example of what it shows:

Microsoft Entourage.app: 12.0.1
Microsoft Excel.app: 12.0.1
Microsoft Word.app: 12.0.1
Microsoft PowerPoint.app: 12.0.1
Microsoft Messenger.app: 6.0.3

That sounds right, as it the same versions I have on my machine. Not every
update updates all Office applications, so the application version number
does not change for all applications with each update you install.

You can go to /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/, and "Get Info" on
the "Microsoft Component Plugin". That file is updated after each update,
so the version number should be the version number of the last update
successfully installed.

Today AutoUpdate advised me that Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.0 was released. I
selected Install and typed in my password. According to the AutoUpdate this
update was downloading. After about 15mins of downloading I did not get a
confirmation that it had been installed but the following window appeared.
"AutoUpdate requires that you type your password"

I can find no evidence that the update has been installed and having
repeated the same procedure three times had the same problem. It just is not
there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Previous updates were installed with
no problems!

Hello -

Where are you looking & what are you looking for?:)

The best place to check is Word> About Word to see what the version # is
there - 11.5.0 is what it should be (About Excel just says 11.5). You might
also look in the MS Office 2004> Updater Logs folder for 11.5.0 Update
Log.txt which you can open in TextEdit. Take a look at the very last line
which should read "The installation is complete."

Have you run Repair Disk Permissions & restarted your Mac since updating?
