Is it possible to have REAL resources in MSProject 2003 SP3 synced to actual
and the GENERIC resources NOT sync to actual after having set %-complete on
tasks with Generic-ONLY sources.

In other words ... we'd like to track technical progress on tasks that only
have GENERIC resources assigned ... thus, if we set a %-complete, it will
estimate the remaining work on that task for that generic resource.

If I do this now, it resets that task back to 0% as the GENERICS don't
report time via PWA.

Yes, we are using managed time periods because the organization is exporting
all the reported timesheet data to finance to bill the appropriate funding
sources for the actual hours worked.

You have two choices:

1) Remove the generics from the tasks you track manually within project, or
make them *local* generic resources

2) Turn off Managed time periods long enough to make the changes and
republish overwriting actual work.

I think your best bet is one of the variants of option number one.
