Differing versions of Home and Student Office 2007

Hi,

I have noticed that there are differing editions of Microsoft Home and
Student 2007. I have seen one with a listed date of 01/07 and the model
number 79G-00007 and one with a date of 07/09 and a model number of
MSO79G-01153. I understand that the first one can have 3 PCs on the license I
am not sure of the later. Is there any significance to one over the other.
There is about a $50-60.00 difference in price.

I was looking online to various sites to purchase the suite and noticed the
info (dates) briefly on the tag line of the intrasite search. So I checked
the tech specifications and that is where the differing model numbers came
in. I then checked other sites and found the same information there.
Microsoft site does not have the two versions tha I can tell. Sites looked
at for example, amazon, newegg, staples, bestbuy etc. Some sites had both
versions (at the different prices) and others had one or the other. Hope
this helps. Everyone is intrigued that I came across this but unfortunately,
noone can answer the question. I have tried a few tech forums and an online
office chat.

Not sure where these dates come in. Where are you finding that info?

There is about a $50-60.00 difference in price.

Retail versions of Office 2007 Home and Student can be installed on up to 3
computers. OEM versions installations are limited to only the computer
originally installed.

There is currently a promotional sale for Office 2007 Home and Student.
Amazon.com has it listed for about $68 including shipping in US. Not all
sites may {a guess} have been updated for the promotional sale price.

The part number difference may be {a guess} related to the Service Packs or
other changes incorporated. You may want to check if either part number has
Service Pack 1 or 2 installed.

Both Office 2007 Service Packs 1 and 2 can be installed after installation.
You can download the Service Packs from Windows/Microsoft Update. Both
Service Packs are large files. If you have a slow connection you can order a
low cost CDs with the Service Packs from Microsoft.

So in your opinion then, there should be no reason to not go with the cost
effective version?

The one of 07\09 which reads MSO79G-01153 includes SP2. the one that is dated from
01/07 which reads 79G-00007 includes no Service Packs

I was primarily looking at Amazon.com which list both versions plus every
other incarnation of the suite as well.

That would depend on who's selling them.

If you aren't buying them from Amazon, I'd read everything carefully.
Including the sellers' reviews.
