Difficult transition to Office 2007 Beta

R

Robert McN

I've been using MS Office since 1993 and am fairly proficient in it. Last
night I upgraded from Office 2002 for Windows XP to Office Professional 2007.
Well, so far it has been pretty disastrous. I'm shocked at how different it
is. In Word, The menu is gone, so I can't find the commands. I can't find
the style function. None of my macros work and many of my auto-corrects
don't seem to work (though some do).
Four question: 1. Is there some quick guide to help me make the transition
from Office 2002 to 2007? 2. How can I get my macros and autocorrects
working? 3. Is there an option to adopt an interface that more closely
resembles the interface in Office 2002? 4. The Office Shortcut Bar seems to
be gone. I used this all the time. Can it be reactivated, or has it been
permanently retired? Overall, my productivity has been stopped and I need to
get back to work. Any assistance you can give to help me make this transition
more efficient would be most appreciated. Thanks very much.

Using a beta for "productive work" is strictly not recommended.

To see how to navigate in the Office 2007 BETA, see these pages (although it
is only for 2003 to 2007 comparisons, but XP and 2003 are close enough):

Word 2003 to 2007 Interactive Command Reference Guide

Excel 2003 to 2007 Interactive Command Reference Guide

PowerPoint 2003 to 2007 Interactive Command Reference Guide

There are no plans to add a "classic" view at the moment, but, as I said, it
is beta and subject to change, although I highly doubt it will happen.

The Office Shortcut Bar was dropped in version 2003 and there are no plans
to bring it back.

Office 2007 transition

Installed 2007 Beta 2 and it's now the Office default. How do I restore
Office 2000 as default and only use 2007 on demand?

Bob Buckland ?:-\)

I'm assuming from your description that you did a custom installation and that you still have the Office 2000 apps installed (the
default would be to treat Office 2000 as upgradable and to remove the apps that are common to Office 2000 and Office 2007 and leave
the Office 2000 apps that do not have a replacement in Office 2007).

Basically, Office follows a 'last installed' 'last used' model if you're referring to associating file types to each Office
application. In Office 2007 beta 2 there is an issue with this with Word with the workaround being to have a shortcut to each
version on your quick launch toolbar or other location you use, start the program manually and open your files from there.

Note that only one version of Outlook can be used, so for that Office app you'd have to decide which one you would want to use.

If Office 2000 was removed, you'd need to reinstall it and then possibly run the Office 2007 diagnostics after a restart of the PC.
