Hi there,

The Macs at our institution use an automatic proxy configuration script (.pac file) in order to access the Internet through a proxy server.

We have noticed recently (perhaps after a recent update) one of our Macs, which is installed with Entourage and uses several external POP3 servers, can no longer access the POP3 servers when the proxy configuration script is enabled.

I presume this is because Entourage is honouring the proxy pac settings and is trying to connect to the POP3 servers via the proxy.

The questions I would like to ask are:

1. Can Entourage be configured to ignore Proxy Pac settings for POP3 and SMTP servers?

2. If it can't be configured, is there a way to configure a Proxy Pac file to treat POP3/SMTP traffic as "Direct" (I have not been able to find a way to do this).

Thanks in advance,
Erik

We have Mac with Entourage at our office as well. We noticed that we could no longer send or receive to Gmail POP accounts sometime in July. We have a proxy server using a PAC file. We have not made any changes to our network infrastructure. I can telnet to the POP3 and SMTP servers on the proper ports.

The Office 12.2.0 update addressed something with Entourage and proxies.
See if this resolves your issue:

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the link Bill.

The 12.2.0 update may have caused the issue, I think Entourage is trying to send the POP3 traffic via the Proxy server when we need it to connect to the servers directly.

The POP servers are internal? Then you need to include a proxy exception
in your proxy exception list so that traffic to these servers is not
directed through the proxy.
