Difficulty Closing Documents

During web surfing, I save many articles to Word. When I attempt to close
the document, a series of boxes appear after I click the close (X) button.
This is the series of steps I go through: 1. Click (x) Close. 2. A yellow
box appears saying "This File is in use by another application or user." I
click OK. 3. Then the Save As dialog box comes up. I click Cancel. 4. I
click the (x) again in Microsoft Word. 5. A Yellow Box saying "Changes have
been made that affect the global template, Normal. Do you want to save those
cahges?" 6. I click No and the document finally saves and disappears.

Do you have Norton Anti Virus? Open NAV and disable the office plug-in under
Preferences.

No, I don't. I notice this happens more when thecomputer has not been
rebooted for several hours.

Next time you need to repeat the exercise (copy items from IE into Word),
would you try testing the procedure with Word in Safe Mode. To open in Safe
Mode, from Start, Run, type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word will start in its default install mode bypassing all
add-ins, templates, registry changes, etc. Do your usual copy/paste into
Word and see if you have the same problem.

Please explain why I have to open Word in Safe Mode. Normally, I just click
the button (Word) onthe Office Shortcut bar. This opens Word then I just
paste the article.
