Here at NASA Goddard we recently migrated from Office 2003 Professional to
Office 2007 Professional. One of the difficulties I am having is that the
command layout of MS Word is much different from previous versions and more
difficult to use. In addition, important capabilities such as 'undo' have
been hidden. Let me give an example: I was writing document and made an
error. I wanted to undo some typing, so I tried to find 'undo' in the menus.
I looked through the obtuse, jumbled, menus but could not find it. I even
tried the help but could not find it there either. Finally, I remembered
that in the older versions of Word, CTRL-Z will cause an undo. It worked!
Two days later, a colleague of mine was working with a contractor to our
branch who was using Office 2007 Professional. Just as in my case, they
could not find 'undo'. My colleague complained about it some time later and
I told her about what I discovered about CTRL-Z. She was thankful and we both
feel that the menus should be improved and that genuinely important features
such as 'undo' should not be suppressed.
