Digital Signature on the Macintosh Error

K

Kenji

When I open a digitally signed sheet in a Macintosh and Save, it invalidates
the digital signature and makes the sheet unusable for PC.

Anyone else having this issue?

I have to admit I don't know much about digital signatures. However, I
suspect Excel thinks that the document has changed for some reason. If it
has, well, then it should invalidate the signature. But it seems you only do
a Save which shouldn't make the document different, right? It will be
intersting to see if someone else can shed more light on this subject.

I have never had a digitally signed spreadsheet from Windows on my Mac
but I suspect that it uses DRM 7 which is not supported by Excel. Excel
then probably discarts part of the required information on save (just a
guess).

I also have found that if a PC file with a digital Signature is open ed
on a Mac you are not able to get to the macros, even if the macros are
unlocked.

That's true.

If you want to be able to work with these files, please take the time to
drop MacBU a note - use the Help/Feedback on Excel menu item in XL.

Hi Fredrik,

I'm with you on this one. The digital signature should immediately disappear
the moment the file is changed in any way.

Entourage 2004 supports digital signatures to verify the authenticity of the
sender of email, but Word, PowerPoint, and Excel 2004 do not have the
ability to add digital signatures.
