Dilemma With Cache Mode and Junk Mail Filter

S

Scott Christopher

I am using Outlook 2007. I am attached to our mail server running
Microsoft Exchange 2007.

A little while back I had to add many contacts to our server, but when
I looked at my global address list in Outlook 2007, some of them were
not showing. I posted a question about this in newsgroups, and was
told that if I turn off Cache Mode, i would probably be able to see
all of them. Sure enough, when i turned it off, I was able to see all
of the contacts and users in my global address list.

I noticed that I have been getting a lot more junk e-mails, and my
junk e-mail folder is empty. So I was going to start adding names to
the blocked senders list, and I received the message "The Junk E-mail
Filter is not available for your Microsoft Exchange e-mail account
because you are working online. To enable the Junk e-mail Filter for
this account, switch to Cached Exchange Mode."

So it's like there's a negative for either way I go, either I leave
Cache Mode off, see all the names, but get a bunch of junk mail, or I
have Cache Mode on, not see all the names, and junk mail gets put in
the junk mail folder.

Does anyone have a solution or any ideas on how I can resolve this
dilemma?

Thanks!

Do you have the settings to update the Offline Address Book enabled in the
Send/Receive Group?

On which setting, Cache Mode On or Cache Mode Off? I've enabled it
with cache mode on but still missing lots of contacts.

Have you performed a send/receive so that the downloading of the OAB takes
place?

It's possible the OST file is corrupted and not showing everything as it's
updated. I've seen that many, many times. Theoretically running ScanOST.exe
on the OST file might fix it but in my experience just deleting the OST and
letting Outlook re-build it the next time it starts up is time-consuming but
always works.

I'm at a loss, then.  Sorry.  Perhaps someone else will have an idea..

I deleted my OST file and let it rebuild, and the same contacts are
still not showing up.

Do you have any other ideas?

Thanks for your help!

I am now very frustrated. Any new users or contacts that I have added
to my Exchange 2007 Sever since I switched to Outlook 2007. I don't
want to turn off my cache mode because i'll be inundated with Junk
Mail. I have deleted my OST and let it regenerate, but still no luck.

Is there ANYONE who can help me with this problem?

My issue is that when I run Outlook 2007 in Cache Mode, I cannot see
all of the contacts / users on the Global Address List that comes from
our Exchange 2007 server. When I open the Global Address List, I am
missing about 50% of the names.

I can turn the Cache Mode off, but then my e-mail gets choked because
the Junk E-mail filter doesn't deliver junk e-mails to the junk e-mail
folder. All mail gets delivered to my inbox.

I think this is an Outlook 2007 issue, because this problem does not
occurr with any of my Office 2003 users.

Thanks for your help.

I have rebuilt the Offline Address Book in Exchange 2007, and
dowloaded it in Outlook 2007.

No! That did not fix the problem. It's very frustrating. But one
thing I have figured out. It's only my Outlook 2007 that is doing
this. I went to another user's computer who uses Outlook 2007, and
his shows all users, contacts, groups, etc.
