dimmed text in Microsoft 10 Word

I am using MS Word from Microsoft 10 and whenever I type new text it is
dimmed. What do I need to change in preferences to stop this from
taking place?

Check the font of your Normal style, in both the Document and your Normal
Template.

Look up "styles" and "templates" in the Word help, particularly:
"About formatting text by using styles"
