direct booking allows double booking from the calendar

Mike

I am using direct booking of resources on a Exchange
2000. When users book the resource using their
appointments wizard, all works fine. Warning on
conflicting appointments appears and an appointment is not
made for that time. However, should a user go straight to
the resource's calendar they are able to create an
appointment even if there is a conflicting appointment.
If I restrict the rights either at the active directory or
from Outlook, I disable the direct booking ability. Is
there a way to allow direct booking, viewing of the
resource calendar but restrict people from creating
appointments right to the calendar view? I am using the
reject conflicting appointments feature.

Thanks

There isn't a way to restrict it that I know of and still use Direct
Booking. The whole idea behind the "direct" part is that people have rights
to write to the calendar.

You could use an event sink based tool rather than direct booking, which
would allow you to restrict the rights of the calendar to read-only for the
users.

Two such products are:
Exchange Resource Manager - http://www.swinc.com/erm (free for 1-2
resources)
Autoaccept sink - http://autoaccept-sink.sourceforge.net (free, but
unsupported)
