Direct file openings into Excel from Outlook

I just had Outlook 2002 loaded on a new machine at work. I have noted that I
can't always get excel files to open up by clicking on them from outlook. I
have to sometimes save them to disk then open. This problem is inconsistent
and I am not having any problems with any other types of files...

Thoughts?
