I have installed MacosX Tiger, and now when i start every program of
Office i have a boring message for every font (200) installed on my

This is a known issue, and the answer is clean out the system font caches.
You will find instructions for various ways of doing so on one of these
threads about Tiger and font issues, on the MacWord newsgroup.

?group=microsoft.public.mac.office.word&q=tiger+font&qt_g=1&searchnow=Search

cleaning out the font caches is NOT a permanent solution. the problem
comes back up later.

I posted more on this in the .excel group.

We need a fix from MS, or a way to disable the font menu optimization
at startup as is being suggested here.

MS hasn't been able to reproduce it....

Can you email me a screen shot of the error message to pass along?
Un-spamproof my address first. Or post one to a webpage somewhere for
reference?

We're having the same problem. we clean out the cache, we restart the
computers, we've even gone as far as reinstalling all software and have
not reached a resolution. it is an annoyance. what other solutions does
MS have for us.

The problem only happens on a few of our computers, not all. If we
leave the computer on constantly then no we don't see the problem,
however when we do turn the computers off we witness the problem. i'll
be happy to send you a screen shot, if you were to send me your email.
thanks.

Can people seeing the messages about corrupt fonts say which method they
used to upgrade to Tiger? Since not everyone has this problem, I wonder
whether that could be related.

I seem to be having the same problem. I've looked everywhere for
resolution and have tried everything. i've reinstalled Tiger, i've
reintstalled office. the only thing that i'm doing to fix the project
is clean my font cache every morning. this seems to be the only
resolution to date for me.

as for the upgrade. we recently purchased new computer prior to the
launch of 10.4.1. the comps were running 10.3.8 when i upgraded to
10.4.0 and then software updated to 10.4.1. There were no problems with
office in 10.3.8, but as soon as we upgraded to 10.4.1 our fonts
started becoming corrupt.

Somewhat annoying yes, if i new this was the issue i would have never
upgraded. Does anyone have a final solution for this problem?

"FontAgent Pro" resolve the problem (on my situation: upgrade to Tiger
from 10.3.8 - re-installed Office after tiger installation)... I know
it'^s not the best solution .. but wating a solution ...

What did you do using "FontAgent Pro" to resolve this ?
If you can tell me it would be great .
Thanks,
Priyanka

Hi ,
from this post I believe that you see the problem with 10.4.1 but not 10.4
is that correct ?
Try one more thing use font book to see if you have any duplicate fonts .
If you have, delete the duplicate fonts . that may solve this issue .
also what option did you select when you upgraded to 10.4
Thanks,
Priyanka

i used the basic upgrade, i didn't do a clean wipe of my hard drive. i
have tried all of font books options, such as verifying fonts, and
searching for duplicates and have come up with nothing.

i'm desperate for a solution. do you have anymore advice

No one knows what causes this. MS is trying to reproduce the issue so any
additional information may help. It's clear that the problem is corrupted
font caches in the OS (or caches perceived as corrupt by Word), but not all
machines show this problem, so it's very hard to track down what causes it
and keeps re-causing it.

Here, some questions for all of you--maybe we can identify some common
factors among the people having this problem that would help focus on
possible causes. I'm just brainstorming, so maybe this will trigger
suggestions of other possibly related factors.

How did you do the Tiger upgrade? Upgrade, Archive and Install, Erase and
Install?

Exactly what version of Word are you running?

Do you see the problem in all OS X user accounts?

What if you log in with the shift key held down (disables user startup
items)?

What if you launch Word with the shift key held down (disables user
customizations)?

Any font management software besides Font Book in use in either Panther or
Tiger?

Any programs that give you a different Font menu in use in either Panther or
Tiger?

How many fonts installed? (approximate is fine)

What major programs have installed fonts? (e.g., I have the OS fonts, Office
fonts, and Adobe Creative Suite fonts--this is not really findable
information, but presumably you would remember if installing programs
suddenly produced a big leap in the number of fonts you had available)

What version of Panther did you upgrade from?

Are you currently seeing the problem in Tiger 10.4.0 or Tiger 10.4.1, or did
you see it in both?

1. We upgraded from 10.3.8. We didnt' archive or anything, we did a
straight instal

2. 11.1.1

3. We don't have public computers, but two out of the 3 are
experiancing the problems

4. Still doesn't seem to work

5. We have extensis pro 11 and font agent pro

6. All programs seem to give the same font menu

7. About 900

8. Adobe Creative Suite, Os X fonts, and Office fonts

9. 10.3.8

10. 10.4 and 10.4.1

Just stumbled on this group...I am having the same problem since
installing Tiger. Office X works fine but why did I bother getting
Office 2004. My computer is not a public computer (I'm the sole user).
Ran Font Book. Reinstalled Tiger and Office 2004. All upgrades have
been completed. Fonts work in all other software (Adobe and
Macromedia).

Sorry again .. FontAgent Pro dont resole the problem, mi situatiion
was.
- Upgrading from 10.3.8 to 10.4
- Office version 11.1
- ca. 400 Fonts
- now i will try to delete and re-install Office

Safe Start reboot worked for me. I took advantage of the opportunity to
disable "WYSIWYG" font display in the Word prefs menu, as well disabling
as Project Galleries in Excel and Word. Since then I've booted Photoshop
CS, which has a font optimization routine as well. We'll see if the MS
Office font optimization problem reasserts itself.
