Disable Compatibility Warning on Save?

I don't often make documents to be distributed, so compatibility with
older versions of Office isn't important. So why, on every first save,
do I have to see a warning about a recommended check if there rarely
are problems and I wouldn't care if there were anyway?

Is there any way to disable the save dialogue warning?

Hello Sidney,

If you're in Word 2004, do you mean that when you first save there is a
narrative in the area below "Format: Word document" that has "Description"
followed by what in my case says "The default format for Word 2004" and is
then followed by a triangle with "Compatibility check recommended"?

If so, I know of no way to eliminate the wording, even if (as I do) you have
gone to Word menu -> Preferences -> Compatibility -> Unchecked "Check
documents for compatibility".

But stick around -- someone else may have more, or my inference about what
you are seeing may be wrong.

Hi Sidney:

If you read the help topic About Compatibility Report, it tells you how to
turn it off. I know: it's embarrassing: but you are certainly not the first
user to have asked about something that is already in the Help. For some
reason, Mac users have gotten out of the habit of even looking in the Help.
I am just as guilty as anyone on that score: well, the Help has improved out
of sight compared to the way it was; so now, all we have to to is train
ourselves to start looking in the Help again.

The compatibility warning occurs on first save of a document from ANY
version other than Word 2004.

What it means is "You are about to save a document that was last saved in a
different version of the application. Rather than "guess" that everything
will be OK, we recommend that you check to see if it will be OK."

Yes, there rarely are problems, but if you were to save back a version or
two, those problems would cause data to be removed from the file. Some
people would care if that happened, depending on what they were about to
lose. Word can't tell you that until it has completed its compatibility
check.

Sorry for the delay.

Actually, John, Clive's response was more applicable to my problem, as
I'm seeing the warning when saving new Office 2004 documents.
