Disable Task Pane in Office XP

Is there a way to disable the Task Pane feature when
creating new docs in Word. I would like Word to use the old
way of creating new docs, it would simply bring up my
templates. The task pane is just another step thaat I don't
need and would like to get rid of it... anyone know how?

Office XP?

Open Word, select the Tools menu, at the bottom is
Options, select that then select the View tab, and
amongst the many boxes is "Startup Task Pain" (ah-hem...
PANE).

Uncheck it.

Hope that helps.

.
If you are wanting to do File, New to see templates rather
than the task bar on the right you can add a new item to
your File menu bar.

Go to View, Toolbars, Customize then click on "File" on
your menu bar. In the Customize dialog box select "All
Commands" (on the left) and on the right select "File New
Dialog" and drag it to the File menu bar. This will bypass
the task pane for templates.

Your work around is exactly what I needed... it's perfect.
Thanks for the input, it's greatly appreciated.
