disabling GANTT task start and finish date column edits

It is clear to me now that editing the task start and finish date columns in
the GANTT can lead to problems later on.

Is it possible (or even desirable?) to switch off the edit feature for these
2 GANTT columns?

It is not possible to disable the ability for PMs to edit the Start and
Finish column. The best you can do is to hide them from the views using
enterprise views if you are on Project Server version or in the project
templates if you have templates that you have your PMs use to create new
schedules from.

But the Start and Finish can easily be added back to the view and are also
very useful to see. The best approach is to define a schedule updating
process and educating your users on proper scheduling updates.
