Disabling spell/grammar checking?

Hi All,

A colleague of mine is sending out a proof reading test in a Word doc.
Obviously if the person being tested could do spell/grammar checks o
it, that would defeat the point of the document.

Can anyone tell me if it possible to completely disable, spell an
grammar checking in 1 particualr document to the extent that the use
can't actually re-activate the features while the document is opene
but then on closing the document will re-instate the word defaults o
the user settings that were in place before the document was opened?

I'm not looking for code at tis stage, just asking your opinion if i
is theoretically possible?

Many thank

No, it is not possible. As far as I know you cannot disable it at all if it
is installed, although installation is not necessary for Word to run.
Certainly you can't control it on someone else's machine.

Even if you try to avoid the issue by sending out the test in a format other
than Word you couldn't stop the recipient using Word to help with the job.

What's to stop the user employing an on-line spell checker - or a
dictionary - even if this were possible, which it isn't?
The only way to do this kind of test is to use a paper exercise in a closed
room without access to any books or other materials.

Many thanks for your replies, sorry it has taken me a while to get bac
to you. We have decided to PDF the text and then cut the text out a
an image which should stop most people unless they are reall
determined and OCR the document or something else..

Thanks again
