disabling the "Don't know how to get started?"

Cristian Secara

Every time I open a new or existing drawing, the stencils pane shows a big
stupid message: "Don't know how to get started?" (followed by some blah,
blah).
I feel like offended here. It happens I know how to get started since
Visio5.
How can I get rid of this more or less insulting statement ? (that also
occupies half of the stencils area)

Hi Cristi,

I didn't have time to check this, but "shooting from the hip", I think this
answer relates to your problem:

- Go to Help > Customer Feedback Options.
- Click the Online Content category and uncheck the Template Help setting.

Hope this helps,

- Go to Help > Customer Feedback Options.
- Click the Online Content category and uncheck the Template Help setting.

Sorry, it didn't helped. I unchecked all the three Online Control Settings
(individually and/or globally) but the program still amuses about me by
asking "Don't know how to get started?" when I click the "New" icon.

These steps may help to resolve the issue:

- Goto Tools > Options

- In the View tab, uncheck these options: Stencil Window Screentips, Other Screentips & Toolbar Screentips

- Click OK and restart Visio.

Regards,
Jagadeesh. P

Already been there, done that. Nothing changed. I unchecked all checkboxes
from the "Show" options from that tab. Nothing changed.

This message is shown when you open a documents that has no stencils in its
workspace. The behavior serves as a guide for new users, and there is not a
way to disable it. Sorry that this is annoying to our more knowledgeable
users.
