disabling virus scans every time i open a document in word 2007?

Every time i open a word document in word 2007 it runs a virus scan. How can
i turn this off as it takes such a long time to run these scans? is it
connect to my Norton Anit Virus?

Yes, it's a function of Norton. Disable it in Norton.
