Disappearing / Broken Text in Word

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I am running Word 2008, with the latest patches installed 12.1.4.

In viewing or editing a file, I constantly see blotches of text disappear, or horizontally are cut in two. To fix it, I can mouse over the text and "highlight" it as a selection.

The documents I believe were originally created with Word 2003 or 2007 on the PC. When viewing the broken page, selecting and unselecting the paragraph symbol (show formatting).

can provide a sample to someone if you provide me your email. We have 8 people where I work evaluating Macintosh, I am one of them. They all see this same problem. So maybe its something thats very widespread on the mac/Word 2008 or maybe its unique to how our company is creating our documents.

Any help is greatly appreciated. The original thread for this was closed and I did get a reply from someone who asked for a sample but had no email address to get it to them.

What you're describing is suggestive of screen redraw problems with the
graphics cards on some Macs and/or limited available RAM. Cruise the Apple

updates pertinent to your breed of Macs.

I just had an instance of that this week.

A customer sent me a document created in Word 2003 on the PC that exhibited
those symptoms.

I sent it in to the Microsoft Mac Business Unit Word Test Team.

Bob is correct: it is a screen re-draw problem. It is also a bug.

You are correct: it will happen only in Page Layout view. You will not see
it in Draft View, and you will not see it if you jump to a page, or if you
click in the scroll bar to go to a page. It appears only if you scroll
rapidly, using the mouse or cursor.

On my system, once the bug has appeared, something gets corrupted
internally. If you close the offending document, then try to open any other
document, you will get an "Out of memory or disk space" error, which means
you have to restart Word.

Microsoft is looking at this one. I would expect them to patch it, but it
may take six months for the patch to appear.

Cheers
