disappearing contacts

One of my users wanted a copy of his assistant's
contacts. I exported them onto our server and then
imported them onto the user's computer. After exporting
it appeared that, although the format was off a bit, all
contacts were imported. Some contacts were added/changed
but everything was saved. However, when the user goes
back into the contacts some are missing (entirely). I've
fiddled with the views, filters, etc....still the missing
contacts. Tried the whole process again with adding &
editing and once again missing contacts.

Any suggestions?
(exported from Outlook 2002 imported to Outlook '98)
