Disappearing cursor in word

Why would the cursor , in a word 2000 , document disappear
from its position during a typing phase.

memory?

or is there some inherent setting in word 2000 that would
cause this?

Check your mouse settings. Do you have the option turned on to Hide Cursor
While Typing?
