disappearing emails

I set up email for my 80 year old mother to go through Outlook (2000).
However, once she reads an email it disappears. It does not go to the deleted
emails folder (or any other obvious folder). I do not have it set for any
auto archive and have not created any rules that would cause this.

Any ideas on how to correct this? I want the emails to stay in the Inbox
until we decide to delete them.

View-Current View-Messages (as opposed to Unread Messages) - again and
again and again.....
