Encountering a problem whereby one half of an external dependency "pair"
keeps disappearing. For example, I open a project in which I previously
created an external dependency, but no links between projects box opens and
the external project does not open in background. In addition the external
predecessor does not show in predecessor column. However when the external
project is opened in the same session, the external link (greyed-out task)
instantly appears in the FIRST project, along with correct display of the
external predecessor in the predecessor column. So my theory is that another
PM deleted one half of the link (the one in the first project). So I resave
both projects and this seems to solidify the full pair again. Files now both
open and show the link individually OK. However, after a few other PMs have
taken a look, the half-link disappears again.
The only other clue is that on a single occasion I had a pop-up on opening
the first project that mentioned a data mismatch with the destination WBS
code (in the target project) saying the WBS code was invalid. It appeared to
be OK however.
All of this is happening in an Enterprise environment with multiple PMs and
complex security. For a while this resulted in a "File Not Found" message in
the External Links dialogue box if a PM did not have read access at least to
an external project file. However this is now corrected.
Anyone else come across this?
