Disappearing Footer with Different Odd/Even H/F

J

junger

Hi.

I want to have

- different headers on even and odd pages (title and chapter)
- the same footer on every page (URL and page number) - except first
page, but that works.

Whenever I have different odd/even header footer turned on, my even
footer disappears.

Turn it off, and my even footer re-appears.

How do I fix this?

Headers & Footers come as a "set" on any given page. IOW, you can't have
Odd/Even Page Headers with a "running" Footer. If you want the same footer
content on every page it needs to be inserted in both the Odd & Even Page
Footers. [The exceptions being page numbering & certain other types of
fields, but content you type needs to be in both.]

BTW - please always specify version & update level of both Office & OS X in
any postings - it can make a difference in many cases.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your response. It's Word 2004.

The problem is that I cannot enter anything into the even page footer
when I turn on different even/odd h/f.

The field for inserting anything into the even page footer disappears.
So there is no where to type anything at all.

Any idea?

Navigate to an even page. Heh! Then you won't be able to change the odd
page footer.

If you want a unique first page header/Footer. after the first page
insert a section Break. Then you can insert a new header, and new footer
You have odd/even work on a specific section.

Well, bear with me on this...

Click on an Even Page then go to View> Header & Footer. Click the Switch
Between Header & Footer button on the H/F toolbar. Make sure you have the
Non-Printing Characters (¶) displayed. What exactly happens?

AFAIK there is no way for the Header or Footer box to be *removed* by way of
any settings, controls, keystrokes, or anything else the program has to
offer. If there truly is no Even Page Footer box showing up there's only one
way to make it disappear - You must select the entire Footer content, format
the font as Hidden then hide Non-Printing Characters.

The only other explanation I can fathom is that it's a corruption issue. Is
the problem evident in other documents? If not, the doc in question is
corrupt for some reason so try the solutions offered here:

http://word.mvps.org/Mac/DocumentCorruption.html

If the problem occurs in other docs it may be a corrupt Normal template, in
which case this page will be the one to go with:
