disapperaing caption when used with square text wrapping

I have been experimenting with captions in MS Word XP.
When I add them to "top and bottom" text wrapped diagrams, it's fine.
However when I add captions to "tight wrapped" diagrams, the caption is
added into a text box. I can understand why this is necessary, to reserve
the text wrapping. The thing is...

When I try to automatically build a table of figures, using
insert>referece>index and tables, the table of figures does not include the
caption entries held in text boxes.

How do I get around this problem? OR am I doing something wrong?

Word doesn't "see" text in text boxes. Insert your graphic and caption in
line with text, then select both and insert a frame (use the Insert Frame
button on the Forms toolbar). You can wrap text around the frame in much the
same way you can a text box, and there are similar positioning options. The
chief differences are:

1. The frame is in the text layer rather than the drawing layer, so Word can
see the text for the purpose TOC, index, cross-references, etc. Also, you
can see it in Normal view.

2. The border on a frame is removed through Format | Borders and Shading
rather than Format Text Box: Lines and Colors: No Line.

3. Wrapping options are limited to None and Around, so you can't put a frame
in front of or behind text, but it's unlikely you'll want to.
