Disc scratched... new computer

So I purchased Office XP a few years ago and ran it on my old computer, which
just died yesterday. I replaced it with a new computer, and would like to
install Office XP on my new computer, but I pulled the discs out and one of
them is scratched beyond use (gave me an error while attempting to install).
Is there somewhere I can download a replacement copy? I have the product key
and 2 of the 3 discs are perfect still... (and I clearly don't want to pay
for Office 2007 right now :)

Microsoft Publisher installation CD, you can order replacement media from

Wow... love that Microsoft. They told me they don't do replacements (not even
downloads) for the version that I have and that if I want Office, I'd need to
get the new version. Screwed!

Along with Earle's advice, the link on how to obtain replacement CDs, if
it's scratched you can also try calling a local video rental store and see
if they have scratch removal machine. Note they'll usually charge a nominal
fee for this service.

Which exact version of Office XP (SBE, Student & Teacher, Pro, etc.) do you
have and which disk is it that is scratched?

I may be able to help with a copy of the disk if you can't get the scratch
removed using Beth's suggestion. I know that MS won't replace the disk now
as it is an old version and is no longer supported.

For scratched CDs have a look at these links, if you can't replace th
CDs

'Removing scratches from CDs using toothpaste
(http://tinyurl.com/3dqtpc) and another 'Removing CD scratches
(http://lifehackery.com/2008/07/14/gadgetry/)

Note the data is etched between the top side and the CD label, th
inside of the top label acts as a mirror.... I usually use Brasso an
the secret is to rub in circular motion over the entire disc keeping th
disk on a flat surface.

If you have doubts try on a old CD first, deep marks will take longe
to rub out using a moderate pressure
